Before you begin writing, hopefully you know the difference between past tense and present tense.

If not, don't pick up the pen or lift your hands to the keyboard. Just stop and sit there and mentally slap yourself. I really feel sad that I have to explain this, but a lot of writers on wattpad don't realize that there is a difference between past and present tense. That, or their momma dropped them on their head. Again. Maybe even body slammed them to the ground.

Things that are too unique for a main character.

Now, I personally have never met anyone with golden eyes, violet orbs of passion, or rainbow depths of emotion (yes, I have heard that one, and I'm ashamed to say that I kept reading on after that...and was sadly disappointed). And I probably never will.

Showing emphasis, I've come to realize, is a hard thing for some people. How? I don't know. Why? I also don't know. Who dropped them on their heads and took away common sense? Prolly their parents.

This is how you show emphasis, for all of you who got dropped on your heads.

Dialog.
This is so important that I can't even explain to you just how essential it is that you do this right. I hate reading a good-looking story that has nice description, and then finally coming to dialogue only to realize that I had been fooled all along and the story I was enjoying was actually a piece of shit because the writer couldn't get the damn dialogue right.

Let me show you how it's done, yeah?

Their, there, they're.
Their is for "people". There is for a ""place". They're are is obviously for "they are".

Its, it's.
Its is like "his or her". It's is a contraction for "It is".

Commas.

Do not use commas as a "period". I see it so many times, where writers will put a comma instead of where a period should be, making it a rambling sentence. It's a pain in the ass.

Example: If this is how it's going to be then fine, I don't like you anyways."

Correct: If this is how it's going to be, then fine. I don't like like you anyways." (The period could also be a semi-colon).

Just make sure that your sentences are about the same subject, okay? Like, you say, "I ran in my shoes, the unicorn barked." <-- the hell does that make sense.

Long paragraphs.

At most, I would like to see paragraphs with 3-5 sentences, not some long ass thing that basically tells a story by itself.

It's unpleasant to read, to look at, or to even decipher. And trust me, when you have so many thoughts and words in one place, I feel like I'm reading hieroglyphics.

This one should be pretty obvious, but never use asterisks in your story. If you don't know what that is, they're these little star thingys--> ***

The second I see one in a story, anywhere, I stop reading. It's a sure sign that the rest of the story is shit because you don't know what you're doing with yourself.
